# **Hearts**

Hearts is the classic trick game for four: pass three cards, avoid hearts and the queen of spades, or shoot the moon.

## **How to play**

Hearts is a trick game for four where you want as few points as possible. Every heart costs a point, the queen of spades costs 13.

1. **1**### **The goal**

   **Avoid hearts and the queen of spades.**

   Every heart in your tricks is 1 point, the queen of spades is 13. When someone reaches 100 points, the player with the fewest wins.
2. **2**### **Passing**

   **Before each hand, pass three cards.**

   First to the left, then to the right, then across, then a hand without passing. Get rid of high cards and the queen of spades.
3. **3**### **The first trick**

   **Whoever holds the two of clubs leads it.**

   After that, the winner of each trick leads the next one.
4. **4**### **Follow suit**

   **Play the suit that was led if you can.**

   The highest card of that suit wins the trick. There are no trumps in Hearts.
5. **5**### **Breaking hearts**

   **Hearts can only be led once a heart has been played.**

   If you can't follow suit you may throw off a heart: then hearts are broken. (If you only have hearts left, you may lead them anyway.)
6. **6**### **A clean start**

   **No points in the first trick.**

   If you can't follow clubs, you may not throw off a heart or the queen of spades. (Unless you have nothing else.)
7. **7**### **Counting**

   **Hearts 1 each, queen of spades 13.**

   That's 26 points per hand. The game shows the points in each trick right away.
8. **8**### **Shooting the moon**

   **Take all 26 points and everyone else gets 26.**

   Risky but powerful: it only works if you get every heart and the queen. (In the lobby you can choose to subtract 26 from yourself instead.)
9. **9**### **End of the game**

   **The fewest points win.**

   The game ends after the hand in which someone reaches 100 points.
